I am constantly on the lookout for new products that could be good for people with diabetes. I normally buy most of my products at the grocery store, but a few weeks ago I was in a super store (a store with groceries, clothes, housewares) and I started looking through the grocery section when I came a crossed the health food/bar isle.

Choices, Choices, Choices

As I normally do, I started flipping the packages over to find the nutritional information. To my amazement, there are so many products that are not “healthy” especially for people with diabetes. I usually leave this section of the store disappointed and empty handed, but today was a good day.

Health Warrior

As I flipped one of the boxes over, I saw some really good nutritional information and wondered what was this health bar made from? I flipped it back over and saw that it was pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate.

Excellent! I love pumpkin seeds and mix it with dark chocolate, this sounds like a perfect pairing. What was this product? It was the Health Warrior – Pumpkin Seed and Dark Chocolate bar.

Nutritional Attraction

So, what attracted me to the Health Warrior – Pumpkin Seed and Dark Chocolate bar to start with?

First, it was the carbohydrates. Take a look at my article on Good Nut, Bad Nut and you will see that Pumpkin seeds are in the top 5 best nuts and seeds for carbohydrates.

Second, I was attracted to the calories, this one has 170 making this health bar better than most of the “health” bars that I have found.

In comparison, most “health” bars are about 17 grams of carbohydrates, and I have seen them go as high as 25-30 carbohydrates with calories reaching as high as 300.

Taste Test

Between the nutritional information and the ingredients, the Health Warrior – Pumpkin Seed and Dark Chocolate bar passed the first test, but how would it taste? It didn’t take long to figure that out. No sooner than I got the box home, curiosity was killing me, so I had to have one.

The first thing that I noticed is the chewy and soft nature of the bar. It’s not dried out or hard at all. It’s moist and actually very flaky.

When I put the first bit into my mouth, I noticed how the whole pumpkin seeds added a nice crunch while the dark chocolate add a deep flavor that was not too overpowering, but I could taste both the pumpkin seeds and the dark chocolate. I really like the way that the bar taste all by itself, but then I decided to break up the bar up and mix it with some Dannon Light and Fit  Diabetic Friendly Vanilla yogurt and that really made a nice snack.
