Dannon Light and Fit Diabetic Friendly Yogurt – Strawberry

Yogurt has always been one of my most favorite foods. I never really had yogurt when I was a kid, so when I was able to have some it was always a treat. Before I found out that I was a Type 2 Diabetic, I loved to eat yogurt. I would eat it with bananas, on waffles, with berries or just all by itself as a snack at night.

The Normal Stuff

Once I found out that I was Type 2 Diabetic, I realized that an average yogurt has 100 calories and 6 g of carbohydrates which although this isn’t terrible, it’s not the best. Given my love for yogurt I knew that I will not be able to eat as much yogurt as I used to eat. I needed to find an alternative.

Diabetic Friendly?

One day when I was shopping I just happen to stop by the refrigeration section where I started browsing around. I like to do this from time to time to see what I can find that might be good for me know that I am Type 2 Diabetic. As I reviewed every yogurt nutritional information  I found, I just couldn’t find anything that seemed diabetic friendly.

Then all of a sudden my eye caught view of a label that said “Diabetic Friendly“. I had to look a second time just to make sure that I wasn’t seeing things.

So I looked again and found out that I was not dreaming. Holy Cow! Could it really be a yogurt  that is diabetic friendly? As I began to review the nutritional information I noticed that this yogurt only had 45 calories and 3 g of carbohydrates, that is a 50% reduction from normal yogurt. That was great, but the real test is how does it taste?

Taste, Taste, Taste

For me, the ultimate judge of how good a product is, has to be the taste. A food can be as diabetic friendly as you want, but if it tastes like cardboard or is so watery that it might as well be water, then I don’t want to eat it.

My first test was to just eat it straight out of the cup. To my amazement, it tasted really good. I ate the whole thing within just a few minutes. It’s was a little on the thin side, but by no means watery. What it lacked in thickness, it made up for in flavor. I tried the strawberry flavor and it was wonderful. Full of strawberry flavor and little bits of strawberries throughout the entire cup of yogurt.

Now. I have Light and Fit Diabetic Friendly yogurt with everything. I mix it in with my oatmeal, I put it on top of my granola, or I just eat it straight from the cup. No matter how I decide to have some yogurt, I know that I am eating healthy and diabetic friendly food.
